Prerequisite: Dogs must be at least 1 year old and have no underlying orthopedic issues or veterinary restrictions. Dogs must have taken a beginner obedience class. This course will use luring, capturing and shaping techniques to teach new skills.
Description: The AKC FitDog program was developed in conjunction with Blue-9 pet products to offer instruction to help keep your dog in shape. Students will learn proper form and safety while doing various exercises to improve their dogs' balance, flexibility, stamina and overall body fitness. Level 1 skills include: Tuck sit, Nose Touch Front Paw Targeting, Shake Paws, Cookie Stretch, Kick Back stand, Spins, Fold Back Down, Cavaletti poles, and Rear Leg Pivots.
Dogs will need a well-fitted flat collar or martingale. A list of home equipment options will be provided. A passing score in the class fulfills one of the categories for FitDog Titles and is required to earn titles. AKC Fit Dog titles are non-competitive. Dog owners may choose from different activities to earn titles. More details will be provided during classes.
While there are club chairs available, students may want to bring their own. Please bring your own crate if needed.
